Intro
You won't have heard from us in a while and that is unfortunate, but when it comes down to the choice between putting food on the family table and writing the newsletter, the former wins every time.
The current economic situation is having an effect all around us and things are not good for some and very not good for others, but it is hoped that this issue may be useful to you, as it contains excellent value gift ideas, a way to save money and a way to make money.
If you know of anyone who would also like a copy, please forward this to them with our blessing. To subscribe, they will need to visit: http://whitstablecomputerrepair.co.uk/newsletter.php and enter their details, then click the link in the confirmation email they will receive.
Christmas Approaches
At Whitstable Computer Repair we can provide a one stop setup service for any new computer presents you are buying for that special someone this Christmas, whether it's a new wireless printer for the family, a new PC, or an iPad we can set them up so they are ready and working with the necessary user settings and antivirus software pre-installed in time for Christmas morning.
We are currently offering a range of refurbished computers for sale. If the cost of a new computer is just outside your budget, these could provide an excellent solution for you. We are working hard to make these available to view on our website at http://whitstablecomputerrepair.co.uk, but in the meantime if you have any specific requirements, please drop us a line. We even have one that looks like the front of a Mercedes! I don't expect that to be around for long.
Tips and Tricks
Something that you may not be aware of is that due to widespread flooding in Thailand badly effecting hard drive factories in the country, prices have more than doubled in the last couple of weeks, one example I have seen reported was that drives which were £40, are now available for £170, the disruption is likely to last until next March and is already effecting the cost of new computers, so if you want to beat the rush and minimise the impact of inevitable price rises, the time to buy is right now.
It is estimated that the hard drive represents 10% of the overall cost of a PC, so while it's not going to double the overall cost of your purchase, it is still an unwelcome "shot to the pocket" on the approach to Christmas.
Let’s Be Careful Out There!
As you can imagine we come across a wide variety of virus and spyware attacks in a normal working day, so we thought we would share with you the latest infections that seem to be popping up and how to avoid them.
We are still encountering a significant number of machines with virus and spyware infections and to add to this it seems that the "Call Centre Scam" is still out there, this was reported in our first newsletter, but to recap very briefly, "The scam always starts the same way: the phone rings at someone's home, and the caller – usually with an Indian accent – asks for the householder, quoting their name and address before saying "I'm calling for Microsoft. We've had a report from your internet service provider of serious virus problems from your computer." If permitted the caller will take control of your machine and point out loads of apparently critical infections, before trying to get you to sign up for a costly preventative service. Let me re-iterate - This is NOT Microsoft, or anyone affiliated with them.
On a more positive note, we are currently offering a free 18 point Security Assessment with a full security report with every tuneup or repair job we do until Christmas, this has proved very popular since we started offering it in October. It's good to get some peace of mind that you are not being "overlooked," or snooped on while you are online. Simply mention that you saw it in the newsletter when you book your appointment.
Make Money, Save Money, Ask Me How!
Would you be interested in significantly reducing your costs in these difficult times? if the answer is yes, give us just 15 minutes of your time and we can explain how to knock 25% or more off your household expenditure.
We can also offer you a part time income if you have just a couple of hours free per week, something that rewards you again and again for work you do just once. Give us a call if long term financial freedom is something that appeals to you!
I'm not going to go into any further detail here, but if either of the above opportunities interests you as it did us, please let us know. In each case given 15 minutes (and a cuppa if we're lucky ;) ) and we might just be able to improve your financial situation, or even change your life.
